The Toolbox project

So the Toolbox project we were required to choose a character e.g. A %! + which is the starting point for our ideas and visual research. For our outcome we should identify and investigate our strongest ideas and concepts. Our outcome could be: 3D model, printmaking, a graphic/illustrative poster, a serious of minimum 5 photographs or a 5 sec edited sequence/animation/gif and supporting storyboard.

Well…

Well first of all, I think I didn’t understand clear what do I need to make as my outcome, I mean what should I tell by my work. So I spend lots of time just collecting letters from outside.

So I decided to visit Academic support after several weeks of suffering. And it helps me to understand what I should do.

So one day, when I visited Barbican, I found beautiful letter L, which was created by lights.

And decided that it can be my outcome, Light around us…from morning to night. The idea was about to find letters form from everywhere, from different surfaces. But I gave up with that idea, because I find it quite difficult.

And other day, when I was playing with my photos from Barbicans buildings (I love that Brutal style), I find out that I can use shapes of buildings to create letters and make a 5 sec video.

So I would like to improve first – my sketchbook. All thought should be linked. Don’t need to explain everything in your sketchbook. Visual thinking is important. Quickly drawing. Your sketchbook is combination what you see and what you think, what is your idea, individual things. Sketchbook is your diary, your experience journal. Whole process should be recording and reflecting (what was success what was difficult)

My sketchbook is heavy and I didn’t bring it everywhere, so I made notes somewhere else, and after spend lots of time to transfer them to sketchbook, some of them lost, so it doesn’t look like a diary thats why it makes me lots of time to understand what im going to do as my outcome.

I would like to improve my time management. Should make a plan and work every day, not doing everything just last minute.

Workshop Inductions

As a student of level 3, we had a workshop induction.

  1. First workshop which we visited was a Digital space. There was just some introduction how we can use orb site, how we can use digital workspace, which computers use for editing photos, which for editing video and et.c
  2. Photo Workshop / Photo Lab studio. Was introduction  – which studio we can use, how to book them. We were invited to Dark room, introduced to 3D table.
  3. ScreenPrinting Part A and B. So we are introduced to this workshop and how to make our own designed print by using screen and paint and how to transparent color on the paper. So you can create you own posters. I find it really difficult job. I think you should spend at least 5 hours at workshop to make your screen first and after to print not the paper. But it is amazing technique to print and I love to work with paints.

4.  Printmaking (Lino/relief). It quite the same like a ScreenPrinting except you don’t use a screen, you use a Lino or relief. To be hones, I was quiet confused, when you should choose to use Screen Printing and which situation should be to use Print Making workshop.

5. 3D Workshop

In this workshop you can work with different tools, from woodworking to 3D printer, to create your own 3D model. You can find there 3D printers, Laser cut, lots of hand tools, drills.

I find it really interesting, even student laser cut their own letters from wood and created 3D models for their projects.

6. Letter Press.

At this workshop we were introduced how to use a printing press. Movable letters of different types, press, inks it, and transfer the ink from the types to paper by rolling and press.

I find it really interesting and very hard working process, because when you are printing a text, you need to check letter spacing and word spacing. But actually you can create your own type at 3D workshop and letter press it.

I would like to use ScreenPrinting workshop, Digital space (I am not good at Photoshop) and 3D workshop as well.

And how it really looks like from outside)):

At first,  I was a little surprised and scared of how this building looks like inside.  Looks like a huge workspace. And the number of workshop has delighted me.
